Hydrotherapy: Good for the Mind, Body, and Soul

Water is one of the most fundamental building blocks of life.  Every plant and animal needs it in order to survive. Aside from quenching a thirst, it is used for travel, for cleaning, and for fun and leisure.  Water has long been 21used for its therapeutic benefits, and in fact, hot springs have been used for centuries to soothe aching bodies because it was known for its effectiveness in the treatment of injuries and ailments.   Today, hydrotherapy comes in many forms such as hot tubs with pulsing jets, a massage while immersed in a warm pool, steam baths, alternating hot and cold tubs of water, warm and cold compresses, wet wraps, pool exercises, foot baths, and hydro-massage tables.

At North County Pain Relief, we offer a hydrotherapy table that uses water to massage away aches and pains, stress and anxiety, and loosens stiff muscles.  This type of aqua-massage is similar to a deep tissue massage and utilizes water to increase circulation and stimulate muscles. It uses jets that are more powerful than those in hot tubs to direct pressurized water to your achy muscles and because it’s customizable, it can give you an all-over massage or be directed to precisely where you need it.  The temperature of the water can also be adjusted to give you the benefits of both hot and cold treatments.

Also called “dry water massage”, this type of hydrotherapy provides the same benefits from water massage that you might get from a hot tub with water jets, without the hassle of getting wet.  It improves function in the circulatory, lymphatic, muscular, and nervous systems which means it can aid in the treatment of many orthopedic, rheumatic, and neurological disorders. It helps reduce arthritis pain, fibromyalgia, tension headaches, and other conditions whose symptoms include chronic pain and it also helps digestion and reduces muscle spasms.  The warm water of the massage increases your circulation which increases the amount of oxygen and nutrients that get sent to your muscles. This increase in circulation promotes healing and may even accelerate it! Alternating hot and cold water causes blood vessels to dilate and constrict respectively, decreasing inflammation and massages harmful toxins out of your body.

Another added benefit to aqua-massage is the stress relief.  Deep tissue massages such as this provide deep relaxation, melting away stress and anxiety, leaving you with a sense of wellbeing and mental alertness.

Hydromassage can be used as a standalone treatment or can be used as a warm-up to your chiropractic treatment.  For many, relaxing the body is helpful before a spinal adjustment.

Quite simply, hydromassage is good for the mind, body, and soul.

Your health and wellbeing are most important to us which is why we’re always excited to offer alternative treatments that can help you heal and be well.

If you’d like to experience some of the benefits hydromassage has to offer, call North County Pain Relief at (314)731-4201 and set up an appointment to try a deep, relaxing hydromassage.  Your body will thank you!
